Activities and Attractions in Quinta do Lago

Although it would be a terrible waste to come to the immaculate greens of Quinta do Lago and not enjoy a few rounds of golf, there are plenty of other attractions and activities available too.

So whether you simply want to take a break from your putter, or if you're accompanying a golfing fanatic but don't play yourself, the good news is that you have a long list of alternative activities to keep you occupied.

There's a huge selection of things to enjoy in the resort but here's a few suggestions to get you started.

Hit the beach

With such a warm and sunny climate as Quinta do Lago; why not spend some time relaxing on one of the many immaculate beaches on or near the resort.

The beach at Quinta do Lago is something very special and highly secluded. Only accessible via a wooden bridge over the lagoon, it offers a 3km stretch of sparkling white sand, hidden from view by the sand dunes. With the natural Rio Formosa lagoon meeting the Atlantic Ocean, the coastline is a rare piece of tranquil natural beauty.

There's a number of other beaches which are all highly recommended, some of which are more suited to a relaxing read whilst others offer adrenaline-filled sporting activities such as kite-surfing.

Praia de Albandeira is one of the loveliest and most unspoilt beaches you will find in the whole of the Algarve. A tiny stretch of sand, hidden away between ochre-coloured rocks, this beach offers you privacy and peace and quiet. Head towards Porches from Benagil, taking the left turn onto the single track road. Park in the car park above the beach and head down to enjoy some uninterrupted relaxation.

If you want a more family-orientated beach, you can pick from either Praia do Anção or Praia da Marinha. The former is a blue flag beach whilst the latter was named as one of the best 10 beaches in Europe by the trusted Michelin Guide. Both are well sign-posted from Quinta do Lago.

But if beach sports are more your thing, head down to Praia do Alvor where kite-surfing, kayaking or even pedalo's are available to visitors. Although the Blue Flag award-winning beach has the right breeze for kite surfing, the waters are surprisingly calm allowing you to enjoy a go out on the water without feeling as if you are about to capsize!

Bird watching

Quinta do Lago is one of the most unspoilt resorts in the world. Lined with sandy white beaches, and incorporating a stunning tidal lagoon and bordered by a pine forest, the natural habitat means the gentle sounds of nature are never far away.

Quinta do Lago offers nature-lovers the opportunity to head out on one of the marked trails, which winds through wetlands, woodland, salt-marshes and reserves, almost guaranteeing the sight of many unusual and otherwise hard-to-find birds.

Quinta Do Lago is home to many amazing birds.

Some of the feathered specimens you might encounter on your stroll might include pink flamingoes, kingfishers and blue magpies amongst others.

But you don't need to be an experienced twitcher to enjoy the sights; the trails include a number of identification charts so it doesn't matter if you don't recognise the birds instantly by sight, you'll still be able to find out what's in front of you.

Depending on the time of year you visit Quinta do Lago, you may also get the chance to see rare migratory birds on their passage to or from Africa. Although the resort has a large residential population, it is also used as a stopover point for migratory birds, providing birdwatchers with the opportunity to see those who are just passing through.

Go-karting

If you're looking for something a bit different, why not venture a five minute drive away from Quinta do Lago and pay a visit to Karting Amancil, the Algarve's premier go-karting track.

The late motor-racing ace Ayrton Senna was a frequent visitor to Quinta do Lago, describing it as one of the few places he could truly relax and unwind, safe from prying eyes.

Because of his love for the resort, Senna was proud to inaugurate the track at Karting Amancil, which has been approved by the Portuguese Federation of Automobile and Karting and the General Direction of Tourism.

A direct copy of the real Formula 1 track in Brazil, Senna's home country, the go-karting circuit is 760metres long and more than 7 metres wide, providing plenty of room to really enjoy yourself!

The go-karting track is open all year round and has options for all members of the family, even junior go-karts from age 3 and upwards.

The mall itself is something special, having been built around an open courtyard, with more than 40 different outlets and designer units. Luxury homewares, designer clothes, accessories and jewellery are all on offer, along with the must-have facility: high quality coffee shops, something which is an essential in Portugal...
